To be honest, I think that Safety Vests are a real safety device, but wearing them makes you look like a dork. But better a live dork than a dead cool person. It's just that you go out and buy nice leathers, maybe install a patch or two, and then hide it with a fluorescent vest. But there are other ways of being noticed when riding your motorcycle in the dark or bad weather. Exelite , based in New Zealand, produce a large variety of luminescent sashes that you place over your jacket. Their products are battery powered and can be seen from a distance of 800 meters. You have the option to have the LEDs flash or not. The battery, depending on the product used, will last you between 8-10 hours if it's constant on, and 12-14 hours if it's blinking. All batteries are rechargeable. They have many different models available, ranging from the single sash, multiple straps sash, to a pack that fits most backpacks. Then they also have vests which include the LED system. You can also select the color of the light when ordering. Price: LumiStrip : UK£34.95 LumiSash: UK£44.95 LumiPac : UK£39.95 I know that they are available in the USA, but by the life of me, I could not find it on the internet. So if you know where they can be purchased, leave a comment above. Click here for more information
