For those readers who've been with this site since several years, you'll know who I mean. Tiffany Coates is an amazing women, one that comes to mind when you mention Adventure, Rider and Motorcycle in one sentence. In brief, several years ago, Tiffany "Tiff" Coates wanted to go to India from Wales (where she lives). She couldn't afford a plane ticket, or any other ordinary form of transportation. So she decided to buy a second hand BMW R80GS, and without having any motorcycle riding experience, rode all the way to India. Along the way, she had loads of adventures, including an "all-paid-for" holiday in the Iranian jails. What was supposed to be a 9 month trip to India, lasted 2 1/2 years crossing through 4 continents. Tiffany at the Copacabana beach in Brazil | I met up with Tiff when I was covering the 2005 Dakar rally. Tiff had been invited for lunch, and was riding her motorcycle to get there. Oh yeah... the lunch was in Timbuktu!!!!! I interviewed this amazing woman (link). Tiffany has recently had a spell of bad luck, and had fallen seriously ill. She was in hospital, and was later confined to a wheelchair. The Docs had said that she would probably never ride a motorcycle again. That was like saying to a fish that it would never swim again... Tiffany is setting out to prove them wrong. This time she decided to go a different route. Somewhere in May of this year, she's going to ride her trusty 1992 BMW R80GS motorcycle (with at least 150,000 miles on it) all the way to MONGOLIA. And she's doing it on her own. No help, no second or third motorcycle, no support crew, no helicopters, no camera crews, doctors, logistics, support trucks, nothing but her wits and experience. Although she does say she would like to have a riding companion ... so if you're up for it, contact her. The estimated 12,000 miles journey is going to take her from Cornwall, to France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kygyrstan, Kazakhstan, Russia and then Mongolia. Then the following day, she will ride to... sorry, bad joke... Along the way she'll be visiting a children's home in Transylvania (Romania) which she had visited on her very first motorcycle trip. Next month we're doing a follow-up interview of this amazing woman. In the mean time, click here to access her website . Respect!
