Australian Noise Camera
Well, they've gone and done it.  Down Under, in Australia, the state government of New South Wales have deployed fully automated noise cameras.

The cameras have sensitive microphones attached to it, and a computer to analyze the noise. If your motorcycle exceeds a noise threshold, a film is taken of your motorcycle, the plate number analyzed, and a ticket sent automatically to you home. The system is equipped with a hard drive with a capacity of 10,000 tickets. Each ticket will have a 10 second video and audio clip, but the first time you can actually see and hear your motorcycle is in court.

Too bad that they will not mail the video clip. It would be nice to have a video clip of you and your motorcycle....

The states of South Australia and Victoria have begun similar programs.

Motorcycles are not the only vehicles targeted. Trucks with noisy brakes, cars with loud subwoofers and even inappropriate honking your car horn will get you ticketed.

Seems like a golden eldorado to me. How is a camera going to know if there are two motorcycles, one loud Harley and one very quite BMW, which of the two has a loud pipe?

Ahhh... the things politicians dream off to get more money...
