Here's a turn for the better....the plague for motorcyclists here in France has been the automatic digital radar systems put in place 2 years ago {link}. These fully automated radars take a photo of you while speeding, the data is sent automatically and immediately to a central computer, where your license plate is scanned. Within hours they know who you are and where you live (even what your bank account number is). Within 48 hours you'll have a white envelope in your mailbox with a "pretty" photograph of your motorcycle.... (and yes, there are more and more radars that now take their photos front and rear, so motorcycles get caught now too). Many people have tried stopping these radars by burning them, shooting them, pulling them down, {link} etc etc. But one person might be able to stop them, and the only weapon he's got is a pen !! Didn't someone say once that the pen is mightier than the sword ??? Well, it looks like he was right ! A lawyer is arguing a case and this might be the downfall of the current radar system. This brilliant lawyer has found out that the law demands that for any speeding ticket, you MUST mention exactly where it took place and the direction you were taking. Well, believe it or not, the automatic radar speeding fines will tell you on which road your motorcycle was travelling, but not exactly where, and in which direction. So, according to this lawyer, you are not able to defend yourself, so the tickets are null and void !! The government is currently fighting this. Some 2.5 million tickets were issued between January and August this year alone, and undoing them is going to be a major headache !! Not to mention the loss of a major revenue ! Let's hope this lawyer wins his case. I'll buy him a beer or tow. Heck, I'll buy him a crate !!
