Despite being in a political turmoil, or maybe because of it, the Transport Minister wants to raise the legal minimum age for riding a motorcycle from 21 to 24. Today, you can ride a full motorcycle (any motorcycle with more than 35 kW horsepower and a weight to power ratio of less than 0.20 kW/kg) at the age of 21. They hope to have the new law voted in by next year, and in place 2 years afterwards. The politicians are following the European Union directives for reducing road mortality. Despite having several year experience riding a "smaller" bike, in order to go to the full license, you still need training and license testing. I'm sure the local motorcycle industry aren't to pleased with this (though the riding schools will be). On its own, I can understand restricting high powered motorcycles to young riders. Statistically, they are the top of the curve for deadly crashes. However, it remains discrimination. If you're a young kid of 18 and pass your car license, the only thing stopping you from buying a Bugatti Veyron is money. So a young kid can drive a supercar with no problem. Sounds a bit unfair... Thanks for the help Jerry R.
