© Eddy Vuylsteke | During the "Bikers Safety Day" held in Belgium, the local Police force unveiled their first BMW R1200GS-P motorcycle to be used by the local cops. The Police version of the popular GS is equipped with side panniers (used for their on board electronics and communication) and top case The Police force in Belgium already use BMW's K1100LT-P and R1100RT-P motorcycles (and like many other Police forces worldwide, the newer Yamaha FJR1300A motorcycles).
It's not the first time a Police Force uses the GS as an all-round Police motorcycle. Belgium's neighbor, The Netherlands have a few running: Of course the country that makes them, Germany, used to have GSs in the Police Force, but to my knowledge, that's no longer the case. Russia also used to have GSs, which makes a lot of sense since their road infrastructure is not as good as the rest of Europe.: Road infrastructure must also have played a big part in choosing the R1200GS-P for Turkey: So what-do-you-know? Maybe BMW is slowing getting back the Police market {link}, but this time using the GS instead of the LT or RT which were used traditionally. So maybe the F800GS will save the day for BMW....
