Sarolea logo
Sarolea Open Sarolea in a new window is not a known name (anymore), but it's a very old motorcycle manufacturer coming from Belgium. The company was created in 1850 as a weapons manufacturer, then bicycles and then motorcycles. After a series of mergers, they ceased operation in 1963 .... until today (click here to read more about Sarolea history Open Click here to read more about Sarolea history link in a new window).

Now the company has risen from the dead, or at least their name. Sarolea are now in the process of making an electric motorcycle that looks the business. From far away it looks like a classic racer, but up close you will notice that it's anything but a vintage racer.

Designed from the ground up, the Sarolea SP7 is a single seat race motorcycle. It will make its racing debut in the Isle of Man TT race in the TT Zero section. It's a one-off but obviously with such a bike, it's intended to be mass-made, so all we need to do is wait for the announcement (wishful thinking?).

The engine is a gearbox-less 180 hp electric engine, giving it a 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and a massive torque of 400 Nm (295 lb-fr) that is available at all times. It has a top speed of 155 mph.

The reason it's so light is that there is a lot of carbon fiber to be found on the bike. One of the team's partners is Torsten Robbens, a man involved in Formula One and 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Let's hope they do well. The world can use a few more properly designed electric motorcycles.
