Some motorcycle riders are more lucky than others. Some by an enormous margin. Gary Brennan from the UK is one of them. The 52 year old biker, grandfather, crashed his Ducati motorcycle head on into a car during a biker meet. When the emergency services arrived on the scene, Gary was pronounced dead. But the EMS folks kept working on him, and miracle!, they managed to bring him back to life. He was immediately flown to the Leeds hospital via helicopter. During the time after the crash and in the hospital, his heart stopped three times in total. Trauma expert at the Leeds hospital, Professor Peter Giannoudis, said: "Gary's accident was in the very top scale in terms of the severity of the injuries that he received.". After spending 6 weeks in an artificial coma, Gary had to undergo a total of 38 operations to save his life.
His list of injuries were extensive; -Bleeding on the brain, -Spine fractured in 3 places, -Collapsed lung, -2 broken shoulder blades, -Fractured ribs, -Pelvis broken in 5 places, -Crushed kidney, -Torn liver, -Dislocated hip, -Left thigh bone snapped in 2, -Left knee broken in 7 places, -Right knee smashed in 9 places, -Tibia and fibia in his right leg broken, -Main nerve to his right leg severed Gary is currently still in a wheelchair, but is already considering getting a new motorcycle. I guess that's what makes us different for the mere mortals... we live and die by our passion. Would you get another motorcycle after going through this? Speedy recovery Gary.
