The Bluetooth Special Interest Group have announced that they are adopting the Bluetooth 2.1 standard. So why write about it on a motorcycle news blog? Simple: there are more and more devices used on motorcycles that use Bluetooth technology (intercoms, bike-to-bike, radio, music, GPS, etc). The advantages of the new Bluetooth standard over the older ones, is that: - Battery life is extended 5 fold! Currently, a Bluetooth intercom will last 7-8 hours if you don't talk too much. With the new standard, this can last days.
- Pairing is automatic. Now, if you want to use a new headset, or GPS, you need to pair it with each other. It's easy and simple, but requires a bit of fooling around.
This means that once the manufacturers start using the new standard, motorcycle headsets and communicators will become more powerful, and will require less charging. It's going to make our life easier and better. Let's see who'll be the first one of the manufacturers to announced 2.1 compliance.
