Some motorcycle manufacturers are doing well during the economic downturn, others aren't. BMW motorcycles are part of the latter group. During the 3rd quarter of 2009, BMW sold 8.4% less motorcycles ("only" 22,741 units) compared to the same quarter last year. This means that for the first 9 months, BMW sold 13.7% less motorcycles then during the previous year. Revenue for the motorcycle group for the 9 months is €865 million compared to €1 billion last year, a drop of 14%. Maybe one day we'll see all manufacturers back in the black, but we'll have lost a few along the way. Bummer.
