Having people run governments who have no idea what they are talking about is a very dangerous situation. It's something that happens in every country in the world, and Brazil is no exception. There, the lawmakers want to restrict motorcycle taxis to such a point that they would have to disappear. The Attorney General, Roberto Gurgel, is stating that the laws that govern motorcycle couriers are stricter than those that are applied to motorcycle taxis, and he wants it changed. According to the Gurgel, motorcycles are already a public health problem, and transporting passengers on one should be prohibited. According to the National Association of Public Transport (ANTP), 31% of all fatal accidents are motorcyclists. Of course, these gloomy statistics don't show how many of these are professional riders. Already the current laws applied to motorcycle taxis require them to have safety devices for their passengers, but it's not enough for Gurgel. So this is another case of lawmakers getting involved in an area they know nothing about, creating havoc in an industry.
