As I had already announced, the very first cafe Racer weekend of Dieppe, called the Balneo Cafe Racer, was held last weekend. The organizers were out of luck, since the whole weekend was pestered by tropical downpours, in company of heavy winds. The only thing missing was snow.
But despite the terrible weather, 100's of cafe racer motorcycles showed up, many from the UK (Dieppe is a ferry town, with a direct ferry to the UK). The event was held at the beach front:
In the middle you see the grass area where the paddock was, including many tents and camping cars from the contestants. On the left is a road that was closed to the public and was to be used for the races and demonstrations.
Here's a closer look at the paddock area:
As I said, the weather was miserable. Here's a webcam snap of what it looked like in the afternoon.
I rode my motorcycle there early in the morning, but after an hour or two, I was soaked, so headed back home. Here are several photos I managed to take, but because the light was very bad, I've played with Photoshop to liven things up.
NOTE: All the photos can be clicked on to get a bigger version, but you will have to let the whole page load, if not it'll not work.
Waiting for registration and scrutineering.
On the right a Triton (a combination of a Triumph and a Norton motorcycle).
A special passenger on a one person motorcycle...
The guy on the left pushing the Honda is none other than Dave Hailwood, son of legendary Mike "The Bike" Hailwood.
The line-up for scrutineering.
This motorcycle is a combination of a Triumph 750 cc engine, Husqvarna forks and BSA frame and brakes.
Here's a closer look at the engine.
Last minute wrenching on an OSSA.
Makeshift working area.
Barn finds?
A Harley-Davidson cafe racer..
Norfield??? Never heard of it.
I have no idea what bike this is? Anyone?
As usual at these kind of events, there are always colorful people attending. Here are a few:
Start'em young..
.. and that's it for the first Cafe Racer event at Dieppe. I hope next year that there will be more sun so we can enjoy the whole weekend. I hope you enjoyed these photos.
