Thanks to the ever present spammers, I've needed to play with the comments & rating function on the site. I had it open, ie, anyone, even not registered could comment, but that was an open invitation to spammers to hit me with spam.
Google suggested I close the comment section to allow only registered users to comment, but that means that you need to register, and then log-on to comment, something that very few people want to do.
So now I've thrown open the site again to anyone to comment, registered or not (obviously I prefer registered), but now the comment will not appear immediately since I need to approve the entry.
Until such time that the big "G" gets a captcha system, I guess that will remain. So when I'm sleeping (I do sleep a few hours, sorry about that), no comments get accepted.
