SAM HCS motorcycle helmet
Don't know how to describe this. The SAM-HCS (Side Angle Motorcycle Helmet Camera System ) is a color video camera system, in fact two cameras, fitted to the rear of your helmet. Then two small color LCD screen are fitted to the front of your helmet, on the top right and left position of your visor.

The idea is that when you're riding your motorcycle, instead of looking into the mirrors, with their inherent blind spots, you look at the LCD screens in the corners of your visor. This way you get a perfect vision on what's happening behind you. At least, that's the theory.

Lots of gadgets built into helmet
The site, GaryOldham.net Open link in a new window, doesn't show the cameras or LCD screens, so I can't see how big the gizmos are. The units are self powered, so not only do you have the mini camera and LCD screen, but also the batteries.

On its own, the project has its merits, but several questions are raised. First, as already mentioned, how big are the cameras and screens? But more importantly, if you remember the Reevu product {link}, you could get the same effect, that is, different moving portions on your visor making it difficult to focus. plus the fact that when you move your helmet when riding your motorcycle, the LCD screens will change as well, which is a lot of movement in your face. Thirdly, a problem which the Reevu {link} had, at nighttime you get a lot of reflection from the headlight of the cars behind you.

But one thing the SAM-HCS has going for it, is that you can unhook the LCD screens and place them on your motorcycle. They carry their own power supply (solar charged), so you should be able to take it with you from motorcycle to motorcycle.

The unit will cost you US$299 plus 25 for shipping (you need to send them your helmet).
