Confirmed: Easy Rider Sequel Coming In September

I think I was one of the very first to post this information {link}, apart from a one-liner on another site. The success cult biker movie, Easy Rider, is going to have a sequel. I was wrong about the status, thinking that the producers were looking for money to make the movie. The crew were at the Cannes Film Festival to drum up attention for the movie, since it's going to hit the theaters in the USA in September!

The Easy Rider sequel (or probably more a prequel) will be called "Easy Rider: The Ride Back" (code name: Scarlet Cross). Someone from the movie left that information in the article's comments section (thanks whoever you were), and now, slowly, information is filtering on the movie blog sites.

As you'd expect, none of the original characters are in the movie, since they all died at the end of the movie. The independent producers are releasing the movie in September in the USA (no dates for European or Asian releases). No big name stars are in the movie (Click here to see the list Open link in a new window), but then when the original came out, neither were Hopper, Fonda and Nicholson. And look what a hit that movie became...

The story centers around Peter Fonda's character (Wyatt) brother, who follows his brother's footsteps, and goes riding around the USA in a similar Harley chopper. With his buddy, Wes Coast, they are confronted with the past. So if it's a prequel, the brother goes first, if it's a sequel, the brother goes after the original movie ride.

Personally, I'm thrilled. Easy Rider was a cult movie, and 40 years later, having another motorcycle movie is just prefect. Since the producers were smart enough not to re-live the main characters by using some strange scenario, but instead made a script that's believable, this movie should work even for those who haven't seen the original movie (do they exist?).

One movie I'm looking forward to! Hope it comes to Europe quickly....
