The Dakar 2010 is at its half way mark, with a well deserved rest day (though many motorcycle hadn't even arrived, and are still battling it out in the desert). The 8th day was the toughest so far, with enormous long stretches of sand dunes.

Here are some photos as provided by Reuters of some of the contestants that you rarely see on sites or TV. These are the real heroes of the Dakar.
