Another little tidbit from the Dakar organizers is that the long awaited regulation, limiting motorcycles to 450cc will be in effect as off 2010. But, it's not for everyone. All professional riders will be limited to 450cc motorcycles, while private entries are allowed to have bigger bikes, as long as their power is reduced to the performance level of a 450cc. I don't know how they plan to do this, since each motorcycle will have its own characteristics, but I'm sure ASO (the organizers) have gotten it figured out. The following year (2011), all motorcycles will be limited to 450cc. Personally, I understand that the organizers want to limit the deadly accidents each year, but this will not do it. IMHO, this is like all motorsports were they start tinkering with rules, regulations and specifications, making the sport less and less interesting. Just look at F1 with rules changes every year, and even MotoGP has lost a lot of its glamour with engine, tire and team limitations. I would have preferred to see the Dakar allowing any type motorcycle, even big engines, as long as they are limited in top speed. But then, that's just my opinion. Click here to read about it
