The big-picture route has been published by ASO for the Dakar 2011 edition. Motorcycles, cars and trucks will be going North through Argentina and Chile, right up to the border of Peru. With its 3rd year in South America, the Dakar is now going almost all desert. The Northern part of Chile is one big vast desert (I used to live there for several years, and know it pretty well), so I expect next year's edition to be tougher than this year. The Northern part of Chile makes the Sahara look like Miami Beach.... As was announced last year, all professional motorcycle riders will be riding 450cc motorcycles, no exceptions. Also changed this year, is that the GPS only points to the Way Point Markets, and does not show the route, ie, learn how to use a roadbook. Registration for this world-class tough event opens May the 15th. Click here to access the Dakar site .
