Annie Seel on Dakar beach (2007) | There's a lot of media attention for the front runners of the famous, and notorious, Dakar rally. But there are more than just the 10 or so top riders competing. There are hundreds of them, and it's harder for them, often competing without the support of a factory team, mechanics, logistics staff, masseurs, coaches, personal assistants, goffers and support riders. This is what the Dakar is all about, riding on your own, helping each other, and suffering... lots of suffering. It's one of the ultimate test of endurability. A fight between man, machine and nature. One person I've been following is Swedish Annie Seel , dubbed "The Rally Princess". She's riding her 4th Dakar, and is currently leading the field for the female entries, and in 40th position in the total motorcycle standings. Impressive. She's riding a KTM 525 motorcycle. She has got an outstanding and diverse track record, competing in rally races like the Dakar and the Baja1000, but also Supermoto and road racing. Just have a look at her history, click here . Annie Seel © Maindru | Annie has hurt her thumb, which is minor compared to other injuries she has had to endure during previous races, but despite the problem, she's still riding like a bat out of hell. It looks like Annie will finish well this year... we sure hope so. You can follow her on blog, which until now has been updated daily. Click here to read her blog . Good luck Annie.
