Back in March of this year, we wrote about the excellent motorcycle documentaries that are available on Discovery's HD web site {link}. Dylan Weiss, a fellow motorcycle blog/news site (called Twisting Asphalt Open link in a new window), produced some very high quality, high-definition, documentaries on motorcycles.

As Dylan says "there's more than a chopper friendly audience out there". With that in mind, he produced a series of documentaries, called "Twist The Throttle"; about the 8 main motorcycle manufacturers. They are all available to view, for free, on the Discovery Turbo web site Open link in a new window.

But, although the YouTube generation can be happy with watching HD video content on your PC screen, nothing beats the quality and viewing pleasure of watching a good series about motorcycles on your HD TV.

It's therefore great news, that Dylan has managed to convince the Discovery Channel to air the documentary series on the Discovery HD Theater TV channel Open link in a new window!

This means you'll be able to kick off those riding boots, grab a cold one, and settle in to watch a remarkable 36,000 mile journey across the world, exploring eight of the most famous sport motorcycle brands. Each episode will focus on one manufacturer, and you'll be able to see how the motorcycles are designed, manufactured and tested. Then you can follow the bikes riding fantastic riding roads and circuits around the world.

The "Twist the Throttle" will start airing in the USA in January 2009 (international may take a while longer, since they often have to dub and subtitle). Here are the air dates, so mark them in your agenda (note: all times are local times):
  • Monday, January 5th, 10 pm: Honda
  • Monday, January 12th, 10 pm: Ducati
  • Monday, January 19th, 10 pm: BMW
  • Monday, January 26th, 10 pm: Kawasaki
  • Monday, February 2nd, 10 pm: Suzuki
  • Monday, February 9th, 10 pm: MV Agusta
  • Monday, February 16th, 10 pm: Bimota/Alpinestars
  • Monday, February 23rd, 10 pm: Yamaha
It beats watching reruns of OCC. It's great to see something else than choppers and infighting between father and son.

There you go, mark the dates in your calendar, get your friends together, kick out the dog, hire a baby-sitter, get a case of beer, and enjoy...
