Quite an unusual way of dealing with naughty drivers. Instead of penalizing people for reckless use of their cars or motorcycles, deducting or adding (depending on the system) merit points from your license, in this latest Dubai scheme, you get "White" points if you ride without fines. "Black" points are added to your driving license for any bad driving you do (speeding, running red lights, etc), while white points are given if you manage to ride without any traffic offences. Here's the stinger; after 12 months of cumulating white points, you get gift vouchers.... or you can exchange white points for black points (even in the future). It's an interesting concept, since it's a positive approach to traffic offenses; reward instead of punish. But I would be inclined to ride my motorcycle for 12 months like a heaven's angel, cumulating lots of white points, and then go and ride like a Hell's Angel using my white points to offset my black points.... Still, I prefer this way, especially when you've seen the way they drive in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates. Positive is always better than negative.
