According to the Spanish SoloMoto magazine, the new rumored Ducati Stradaperta will in fact be called Multistrada 1200. The Multistrada is and has been, Ducati's long standing dual-capability motorcycle for many years, and has not been changed for 3 years. Many Multistrada owners have been longing for a revised model (including myself), and instead of having a different new motorcycle, Ducati is updating the Multistrada to include a new body and engine. The Multistrada 1200 will have one injector for each of its two cylinders, and is rumored to develop 130 hp. With the 1200 engine (1198 cc) it can take on directly the BMW 1200GS dual-purpose bike. As has been the case with the latest Ducati motorcycles, there will be different models, the standard version, Multistrada 1200, and the Multistrada 1200 S (with more carbon bits, the special Öhlins suspension, traction control, possibly the data analyzer found on their sportsbikes and an ABS system that can be disengaged). Further there will be a Multistrada 1200 T - for touring and Multistrada 1200 R - for rocks. The Touring model will have hard saddle/side bags and a top case (again like the BMW GS), while the R version will have a 19" front wheel, enabling the bike to be used more off-road. Ducati will be entering a crowded market of real dual-purpose motorcycles, with the likes of BMW GS, KTM 990 Adventure, Honda Transalp, Yamaha XT660Z Tenere and even Triumph Tiger, so the motorcycle will need to have lots of options that will stand out in the crowd, not just a high performance engine. So far they are speculations, the truth will be unveiled on the 9th of November at EICMA.
