The Ducati press conference started with a speech by their CEO Gabriele del Torchio, how Ducati has been doing well. They've sold over 40,000 units, their revenue and profits are up, and more importantly, the expect to win more MotoGP and SuperBike championships! He also stated that for 2008, 2009 and 2010, there would be a completely new model motorcycle each year, plus 2 or 3 major updates for other models. The first new model for 2008 was presented, and shown here below, the 848. The first model update, or extension was for the new 1098 series, with the new Ducati 1098R. You can figure out what the "R" stands for yourselves.. The Ducati 1098R looks very much like its other family members, except it sports a 180 HP engine (132.4 Kw @ 9750 rpm), and a torque of 134 Nm @ 7750 rpm. The motorcycle is lilited to 10,500 rpm, but for that you a motorcycle weighing only 165 kg!!! The bike weighs 2.5 kgs less than the 1098, and 6.5 kgs less than the 999R. Personally, I find the rear of the Ducati the prettiest.. The titanium exhausts, the single seater, all makes this a beautiful and very fast motorcycle. More later...off to bed so that tomorrow I can face a crazy and very busy day.
