While walking, or better dragging myself, along the miles long corridors of the Eicma exhibition, I bumped into the Vectrix Open link in a new window stand.

Vectrix have been around for a while in different capacity and different products (remember their sexy electric superbike? click here to read about it Open link in a new window), but they have now reduced their ambitions and are currently making electric scooters with the equivalent of a low displacement scoot, typically a 125cc.

What drew my attention were the three colorful batteries that were lying on the floor.

The batteries, black with a fluo-blue were hooked up into a charging station.

Two of the batteries are simply clipped into the bottom part of the VT-1 scooter, giving you a nice low center of gravity.

The third battery can optionally be placed inside the helmet storage compartment, meaning you need to sacrifice your storage space for an extended range. Range is 55 miles (88 kilometers).

Top speed is 62 mph (100 kph) - remember this is a 125cc equivalent.

The interesting part is the ease in which you can take out and put back the batteries. It's a work of seconds. This has two applications: 1) people who do not have a garage or a garage with a power outlet - they just take the battery home to charge and b) fleet operators, like postal services can easily have multiple batteries and replace batteries that have run out of juice.

Charging to 80% takes 2.5 hours. The VX-1 models come equipped exclusively with either the Li or Li+ package. The Li battery features 3.7 kWh/30 Ah LiFePO4, and the Li+ version features 5.4 kWh/42 Ah LiFePO4.
