I already mentioned yesterday the unexpected product branded with the Ducati name. Italwin has come out with an electrically-assisted bicycle, ie, a bicycle with an electric engine. Because it carries not only the Ducati name, but also their famous "old" motorcycle name, the Cucciolo , I decided to have a closer look. Since EICMA is quite boring this year, and badly organized to boot, I managed to get some time at the Italwin stand. The bicycle is beautiful, but you'd expect that if it carries the Ducati logo. In fact, the Ducati/Italwin bike comes in two versions, the above mentioned Cucciolo, and the Mod. City Pearl (male and female version). What's interesting in the design, is that all the electronics have been placed in the back, so the bicycle looks like a ... bicycle. The cargo area in the back is thicker, since that's where the battery and electronics are located. The electrical engine will give on its own a speed of 24 kph (that's without pedalling, when you start moving the pedals you can go faster). In fast mode (ie maximum power), the bicycle will go on its own power for 35 kms, in slow mode, you can reach 55 kms.
Mod City Pearl - Female | It takes 6 hours to charge the battery, but the battery can be removed. The whole thing weights 24 kgs, including the Brooks saddle. No prices or availability communicated. Click here to access the Italwin site
