If you think that by purchasing an expensive electric motorcycle, that after the purchase you'll end up paying less, since you don't need to buy gasoline, and the heavy tax incorporated in your fuel, you'd be wrong. In the state of Oregon, fuel is taxed 6%. But since your electric motorcycle doesn't use gasoline, you don't have to bother. Right? Wrong! There's a bill being passed locally that will charge electric motorcycles on their odometer. They want to charge you for riding your motorcycle on the roads. Granted that you need money to keep the potholes filled in the roads, but let's face it; electric motorcycle are lighter, smaller tires and therefore use up roads far less than other gas-powered vehicles. The government wants to use GPS technology to monitor your mileage, and then tax you for the miles you've been riding. Of course having an onboard GPS recording your mileage will also give the authorities a nice device to record your speeds.... hmmmm... So one way or another, you'll end up paying more than what you think. But pay you will.
