We've just about started the electric motorcycle industry, with a few start-ups gracing the motorcycle industry with the presence of electric motorcycles, and already one of them has adapted their electric motorcycle to ride in the snow. The company is the Swiss made Quantya . Basically, they've taken a "standard" Quantya MX electric motocrossers, changed the rear wheel for a track as found on snowmobiles, and replaced the front wheel with a ski. Quantya will be testing the setup over the next few "cold" months, checking the way their battery and engines operates in the cold temperature. As has been proven recently by the electric BMW Mini car, electric vehicles don't do well in the cold weather. Batteries run flat very fast. The BMW Mini lost 50% of its range during the freezing temperature (Source: Jalopnik ). Another thing to test, is the high torque electric motorcycles generate, but that can be controlled thanks to a plugged in computer. On its own, the idea seems fun. Riding in the snow, no sound, just crisp air and the sound of the skis slicing through the snow.... nice.. I could have used this motorcycle over the last few weeks.
