Maybe the French have gotten the right idea after all, with all their protests against the government. FEMA are reporting that the European Commission have rejected the idea of having a kill-off switch for the proposed mandatory ABS on all motorcycle over 125cc! In other words, you will ride with ABS, even if you're going off road! Total nuts! Imagine springing for a nice dual-sport, like the BMW GS or the new Triumph Tiger 800, you'll not have the choice, since you'll get ABS on it, like it or not. But nowadays, most ABS can be turned off, specially when going off-road. But according to the European Commission the number of people riding on unpaved roads is negligible so ABS will not be able to be turned off. They just don't get it. The number of accidents whereby ABS would have saved lives is negligible but that means that ABS will be implemented on all new bikes over 125cc in Europe, and the higher price that is associated to it. Who cares? The politicians don't. But then to say they don't trust you with a kill-off switch is plain insulting. The whole idea for mandatory ABS is safety, but now all folks that are going off road are going to be in dire danger, and this will result in an increase of accidents. Or maybe that was the whole idea... kill off bikers. Take their head off!
