A sign that things are getting better in Europe after a few years of financial and economical crisis; traffic jams are on the increase. With record unemployment in the Euro Zone, with a lower purchasing power and inflation, people were not taking their car or motorcycle out. But since last year March, the traffic in the European countries has been increasing by 6% each trimester.

The European champion for traffic jams remains Belgium with 58 hours lost in traffic jams every year. That's more than two days a person will have lost of their lifetime every year. The Netherlands follows the list with 44 hours, Germany with 35, France with 35, Luxembourg with 31, the UK with 29 and Italy with 24.

It's the same for individual cities, with Brussels maintaining the top spot of European cities that face the worst traffic jams with an astonishing 83 hours. This is followed by London, UK with 82 hours, Antwerp (also in Belgium) with 78 hours, Rotterdam, The Netherlands with 63, Stuttgart, Germany with 60, Cologne, Germany with 56, Milan, Italy and 56 and finally Paris, France with 55 lost every year.

For the record, the worst road in Europe is the Parisian ring road, the Boulevard PeripheriqueBoulevard Peripherique, with 77 hours lost in traffic jams every year.

Boy, am I glad I ride a motorcycle.
