For those of you who have a GPS, and listen attentively to "the voice" telling you "bear right" (or like the John Cleese voice on the TomTom would say "Bear right ... beavers left"), it can get boring... You can of course download a multitude of voices and for every journey switch, but let's face it, there's really only one voice you'd really listen to.... your spouse! Now, thanks to a Dutch outfit called YourPND.com , you can record a voice (your spouse, grandma, kid or dog) via their web interface, and then download the voice to be installed in a TomTom GPS (Garmin and Mio coming soon). The idea is quite nifty. After making sure your microphone works properly, you follow a set of instructions on the screen. The program will say "Take the 2nd road to your left". You can say what's on the screen, or get creative and make up your own sentence (but you'll have to know what the instructions are so don't say any rubbish). After you record all the sentences, you pay via credit card the sum of €6.95 (about US$10) and download the audio file so that you can upload it to your TomTom. You can also fork out €19.95 for a USB Key version that you can give as gift (like to your folks, or to your spouse or boss). Easy as Larry....Imagine the fun you can have with the text....Now your wife can really nag you... Click here to access the website (the site is currently only in Dutch, but will be available in other languages shortly).
