Looks like the government is getting into dress code, paint jobs .. you name it. The Florida highway officials Open link in a new window have asked motorcycle riders to dress in bright colors, even paint their motorcycles in brightly visible colors and add God knows how many extra lights on their ride.

The campaign "Ride Proud, Ride Loud" is meant to make bikers visible. The increase of motorcycle accidents in the sunshine state has been increasing alarmingly. There were 150 in 1990 and last year there were 550. According to the stats, 1 in every 20 Floridian is a motorcycle rider, but 1 in 7 are involved in fatal motorcycle accidents.

With the increase of sales of motorcycles, the local government is afraid of an enormous jump in the accidents, so they've turned fashion conscious. Painting yourself (at least your clothes) and motorcycles in bright colors and adding lights, will make you more visible. Notice that they don't mentioned loud pipes....

Personally, I think the only thing that will make you visible as a motorcycle rider on the road, is a nice, blue, strobe light. That usually gets everyone's attention. Now, be on the watch-out for 90 year old, riding fluorescent Harleys, dressed in orange and lime green clothing, and 1,000,000 lux front (and rear) lights.
