This is where you realize that the authorities aren't kidding when it comes to catching speeders, specially those on a motorcycle. Last year, a 22 year old biker was arrested for speeding in Paris. On its famous, or more accurate, notorious, ring road (Paris Boulevard Peripherique), the young man got caught (after a long chase) at 190 kph (118 mph). The motorcycle cops had enormous problems keeping up with him, but it's difficult to outrun police who are equipped with walkie-talkie equipment. The young man got the book thrown at him this month. 1 year prison (no parol possible), €7500 (US$10,000) fine, license withdrawn, prohibited from taking the driving test for 2 years (and it takes about 1 year of mandatory lessons) and his motorcycle got confiscated. He apparently had previously been stopped speeding, and even had hurt someone on his motorcycle, so little wonder that he's gone off the road for a while. Some people might admire someone like that, but it doesn't work in our favor. Eventually we all pay the price.
