A scooter gets stolen every 8 minutes here in France. So either find that scooter, or the thief that is stealing that many scooters. Sorry, I digress.
According to recent statistics, almost half the scooters stolen in France get nicked in the greater Paris area. But what's worse with previous years is that the thieves are no longer waiting for the night to do their evil deeds. 85% of thefts are in an urban environment, 53% during daylight and 60% on a public road. Some in plain view of many pedestrians.
During 2013, 61000 police reports were made for the thefts, but not everyone reports the theft. Usually these are the people who do not have theft insurance.
73% of all people who have their scooter stolen immediately buy a new scooter. But strangely enough, the majority buy one from another brand.
I think the manufacturers should start offering better security options, but that would run against their windfalls. So don't expect too much from them.
