Again the French take to the streets this coming weekend. Headed by the French Association of Angry Bikers (FFMC ), but with help of many other road user organizations, including cars, trucks and bus organizations, plus a few clubs and sports organization, they plan to block most big cities this coming weekend. Some will do it on Saturday 10 September, while others will protest on the 11th. All big cities are targeted, and often the local organizations will start a protest run from cities around the main target, building up force and recognition in the area. Then at a predetermined time, the parade sets out; motorcycles, cars, trucks, sidecars, SUVs and other forms of transportation, driving slowly through a city and often motorways, blocking traffic for miles around. Believe it or not, most people support the protests, even if they're stuck in major traffic jams after the event. They know it's for their own good. The reason for the protest? The same as before, the unpopular government keeps heaping repression onto the people, making it more and more difficult to get around, and more expensive, thanks to excessive fines and taxes. The people are fed up. But it's not only France that is unhappy. Similar protests are organized in other European countries, since often the European Commission is pushing down laws and regulations that affect motorcycle riders there. Click here to see the UK one for the 25th of September . Spain is supporting the protest, click here to access Mutua Motera. . Belgium is holding its own protest on the 24th of September. Below you can see a link to the last major protest ride, with photos I took (article called "Anatomy of a French motorcycle protest ride").. Find out where the protests are in your area, of if you're visiting France that weekend, you'll maybe either want to join, or give the city a wide berth.
