It may be a worldwide economic and financial crisis, but here in France, speed radars have never had it as good as this year. Everyone is suffering, everyone except speed radars. They are raking it in. 2009 will see the automatic radar systems generate €550,000,000 (that's half a BILLION) in revenue, an increase of 23%! This according to the latest forecasts by the ministry. According to their spokesperson, this is not because more and more French are speeding on their motorcycles or in their cars, but because more and more radars are being installed. In 2008 there are "only" 2300 automatic radars installed, by 2012, there will be 4300, more than double. Maybe it's time that the government admit that speed radars are not there for our safety, but that it's just another form of taxes we need to pay on top of all other taxes. At least be honest!
