The French fire brigade are held in very high esteem here in France, and rightfully so. The respect that the French have for their fire brigade knows no bounds, since no matter what the problem is, the fire brigade is always the first on the scene.

On the 27th of June, the fire brigade (known as Sapeur Pompier in French) are holding their 10th annual meeting at the Jean-Pierre Beltoise race circuit (Nexter circuit Click for map) for both motorcycles and cars. The Silver Helmets (as they are known due to their silver fire fighting helmets - Casques D'Argent Open link in a new window) have as objectives:
  • Making vehicles understand the others' point of view in traffic (ie the difference between car and motorcycle)
  • Understand each other characteristics
  • Show where you have learned bad habits
  • Persuade people to go for enhanced riding lessons
  • Meet professional drivers and riders.

The theme of the day is "One single road, different types of vehicles, can be get along?". The day long activities are organized by the fire brigade with help of instructors of the Jean-Pierre Beltoise Open link in a new window racing school and the Police.

Patrons of the Sapeur Pompier events have included Dakar winner Cyril Despres, Olympic & World Champion Judo (and fanatic biker) David Douillet, World champion ski, Dakar (car) winner (and fanatic biker) Luc Alphand, multiple World Champion rally Ari Vatanen, current rally World Champion (and fanatic biker) Sebastien Loeb and even John Travolta.

There are always famous people attracted to attend the Casques d'Argent events.

If you are interested in attending this event, you'll need to scramble and register quickly, since the numbers are limited. Cars and 125cc+ motorcycles are accepted, no scooters this year.

Cost: €35
