The French government is studying a new safety concept for young riders. Young kids that want to ride a 50 cc scooter/motorcycle/moped need to take a few hours of lessons, mostly about the rules of the road, but also a few hours riding a 50 cc with an instructor. The problem is that young kids don't understand the dangers of a PTWPowered Two Wheel - motorcyles, scooters, mopeds in difficult conditions, like rain, or at relatively high speeds. Losing control is easy. Therefore the French Ministry of Transportation are designing a system that simulates, or facilitates, the loss of adherence. The metal cage and small wheels are placed around the 50 cc scooter, and then the kids is supposed to tide over a wet ground at an angle that will cause the scooter to lose control. The small wheels will prevent the scooter from falling, and the student can learn how to control the scoot in the wet. Obviously, this is something that can be upgraded for the bigger bikes. But so far, the government is looking at making it part of the official education program for youngsters. Not a bad idea... now you can practice power slides.... For more info click here (in French)
