France: January 2009 Was A Very Safe Month

Snowed under motorcycle
I don't think it takes a genius to understand this, but last January was one of the safest months in France with regards to road deaths. A dramatic drop of 11.9% compared to the same month in 2008.

But then if you have a look at the extreme weather France was (and still is) suffering, with -10°C (14°F), snow and ice, not many people went out on the road (specially not on a motorcycle), and if they did, it was very slowly. So I guess it was not the speed radars and repression that permitted many people to live longer, but the weather. Unfortunately, the statistics do not show how many motorcycle were involved, but I'd suspect none.

Still... 288 people died during the month.
