The famous, and world's biggest beach motorcycle enduro, the Le Touquet Enduropale is being held again the first weekend of February. As usual, there are some 1100 motorcycles starting on Sunday 5 February, and for a first time, one lonely American is taking part. There are 1083 competitors, 15 different nationalities, and the oldest biker is ... wait for it... 91 years old! Normally during the weekend, some 200-300,000 spectators amass alongside the beach to see the race. Since it's free, it attracts a lot of people, not all are bikers, many are there for the show. At the city's horse race track, motorcycle riders used to come and pitch their tents. But no more! The city has decided to forbid camping there, since, again as usual, the bikers will get drunk, and start wrecking the place. This has always been the case at French motorcycle races, MotoGP, SuperBike or Bol d'Or. The city council spends €1 million every year for this event, and this year they celebrate 100 years of Le Touquet (the city, not the race), and the city is also an overflow for this year's London Olympics (it's very close to London, even if people have to cross the sea). So they want to keep the place intact. For motorcycle riders who want to camp, you'll need to go to an official camping, several are to be found around the area, but they are not as close as the horse race track. What that'll mean in terms of traffic is not known, since usually, thousands and thousands of motorcycles come into the city on Sunday, creating a massive motorcycle traffic jam. This year, the beach circuit has received slight modifications, the most notable is the numbers "100" traced into the circuit. It looks like the weather is going to be great for the race, since it's mild and no snow. It will also mean that a lot of people will attend, so if you are planning to attend, better come really early. Click here for more info on the Enduropale .
