Ever since the Gendarme Brigade Motorisee, the French motorcycle police force, came into existence, they have been riding unsafe. Reckoned to be one of the best motorcycle police forces in the world, with a training second to none, despite all their knowledge riding, their clothing was probably one of the worst. The motorcycle gendarme, for historical reasons, were commanded by the horse police, and therefore the clothing they used while riding motorcycle stemmed from the mounted police. You just had to look at their pants and boots. All that was missing was a small whip. But since 2005, the police were studying proper motorcycle clothing since the "Do as I say, not as I do" did not work with the government's safety message to French bikers. So during the Tour de France, on the 16th day, the Gendarmes showed up in their new uniforms. The new uniform is compliant wit the European directive for motorcycle clothes; abrasion, impact, tearing and other standards. It can resist sliding over the tarmac for 4 seconds without causing injury. Airbag The new uniform is high-tech, since it incorporates an airbag, protecting neck, spine and even stomach. The color is light blue, and incorporates a yellow and gray fluo & reflective bands. The inside is removable and rainproof. The outfit is finished off with half length motorcycle boots, and a summer and winter jacket. The helmet used is the Schuberth C3. The jackets are made by Leo Minor (nice play of words if you're reading it in English), and Adda Joly for the boots. Both are French companies. By February 2012 all Gendarmes will be outfitted.
