Motorcycle taxis have become part of the everyday scenery in most European cities, and now they've become an everyday commodity. You can see that when the first software for smartphones arrives on the scene allowing you to order a motorcycle taxi. France based Hi-Cab has some 80 motorcycle riders at your disposal in several French cities, and to get the one you need, they've developed an app for iPhone and Android smartphones. The app will know where you are thanks to the geo-localization function, and when you indicate where you are going to, it will tell you how much, when and what time you'll arrive, and most importantly, you can reserve your cab. Shortly, in a next release, you'll even be able to pay for your ride using an approved credit card. The app is free, but it's currently in French only. If they're smart, they'd translate it into several languages, allowing for the international business folks to use it. What scares me, or more worries me, is that other taxi companies will follow this high-tech example, and before you know it, there's a plethora of apps on the market. It would serve the customer better, if the taxi companies got together and made one single app for all of them.
