As predicted, the sales of motorcycles and scooters in France during 2009 were pretty bad. Officially, sales were down 15.8%, which is pretty bad, with only 200,017 model sold compared to 237,695 during 2008.. But, there's a glimmer of hope in these bad figures. Because the Piaggio MP3 is not taken into account in motorcycle/scooter sales, because of the three wheels, if you add the explosion of sales of the Piaggio MP3 (2,933 MP3-250 and 11,106 MP3-400 - they also sold 34 MP3 Hybrids, not bad after only 1 1/2 month of sales), sales actually "only" fell 10%. Which is not bad considering the bad economy. So, in reality, only a drop of 10%. The top 10 sales by model (excluding the MP3 which sold the most) are: 1. Yamaha 125 Xmax - 7,903 2. Kawasaki Z750 - 6,124 3. Kawasaki ER-6 - 5,426 4. Yamaha XJ6 600 - 4,614 5. Peugeot Satelis 125 - 4,474 6. Yamaha 500 Tmax - 4,349 7. Piaggio X Evo 125 - 4,049 8. Suzuki 125 Burgman - 4,007 9. Yamaha YBR 125 - 3,689 10. Honda CBF 125 - 3,651 The model in red are scooters. 50% of the top 10 models sold are scooters. 60% of the top 10 model sold are 125 cc bikes. In the top 1000+ cc motorcycles, we find: 1. Honda CB1000R - 2,543 2. BMW R1200RT - 1,620 3. Yamaha YZF-R1 - 1,441 4. Suzuki GSX-R 1000 - 1,321 5. BMW R1200GS - 1,231 6. Yamaha FZ1 - 1,172 7.
