In France, like several other countries, you do not need a motorcycle license to ride a 125 cc motorcycle or scooter (since 1996 you are allowed to ride a bike if you have had a car license for at least 2 years). They brought in that rule in order to make things a bit easier for traffic flows in the big cities (yes, there are some politicians who actually use their brains some times). | Note: There were also a plethora of accidents since many of them never had any lessons on riding a motorcycle. Now you are obliged to take a few hours lessons before being allowed to ride a 125cc. | It became an enormous success with many business folks buying 125 cc scoots and motorcycles and using them to commute to work. Starting October, the same forwarding thinking politicians are going to allow people who have had a car license for at least 2 years, the ability to ride the Piaggio MP3 250 and 400 cc scooters. Since the MP3 has three wheels, it escapes several of the legislation regarding motorcycles, and since the MP3 125cc is a hot sales item, the move has been applauded by many. Piaggio had to make some modifications regarding the dimensions, but as off now, the modified scooters are on sale, and can be used legally next month. Now comes the big question. Since the MP3 escapes the legislation for 2 wheels, this could mean that people with a car license can also ride the Cam-AM Spyder.
