The Socialist Mayor of Paris, one who has been fighting to keep vehicles out of his fair city, particularly motorcycles, has announced that starting the 10th of January the maximum authorized speed on the Parisian ringroad (aka Peripherique) will be lowered to 70 kph. Previously it was 80 kph.

According to the mayor the lowering of the maximum speed was to reduce pollution, of the noise and CO2 kind. To ensure that people respect the new maximum speed, on the 35 kilometer stretch a total of 16 speed radars have been installed.

A couple of points.... a) the Peripherique is almost always packed with cars and trucks and the average speed is around 20 kph. b) You don't really lower pollution by lowering speeds by 10 kph. c) All he wants is that there are no cars and motorcycles in his city, and if they do come, be prepared to pay the hefty price. Of course the public transportation is totally inadequate and often on strike.

So the locals have just shrugged it off as another BOHICABend Over, Here It Comes Again.
