We knew it was coming, but not only did it come, it came badly for motorcycle riders. The ruling French government party, the socialists, are already not liked by 80% of the French population, but now they decided to raise it to 100%, at least that is what it looks like.

Manuel VallsManuel Valls, the Minister of Interior, has announced that the speed limit on the secondary road network, ie the country roads, will be limited starting on the 1st of January 2015 to 80 kph, currently limited to 90 kph. But, because he has a hard-on for motorcycles, motorcycles with a displacement bigger than 125cc, will see their speed limited to 60 kph.

Country Road Speed Limits

You can read all about it in the Via: below (in French), but officially it all has to do with "saving" lives, since according to the Minister, 30% of deadly accidents are bikers, while they only represent 2.7% of traffic. Therefore he has decided to limit our speed on roads that see the most deadly accidents (63% of deadly motorcycle accidents happen in the country). He also mentioned that a committee will investigate lowering the speeds for motorcycles on the motorways.

The French Association of Angry Bikers (FFMC) is not taking this well, and is organizing multiple protest rides ... rides that will see 1000's of bikers riding at 80 kph on motorways. That will show the government what 80 kph really looks like.
