	France: Ultimate Motorcycle Rally 2 January 2009   File under  France Racing   Author: Mike Werner   Location: Travelling A new style motorcycle rally is being created in France for next year. Called the Ultimate Rally, the motorcycle race is styled using the old way the Monte Carlo rally was done; the race starts in 4 different cities in France at the same time, converging in one city in the middle of France. The race starts in a city in the North-East, North-West, South-East and South-West on July 26th 2009 at midnight. You select which city you want to leave in. After 500 kilometers, all contestants (hopefully) arrive at Marcillat en Combraille . Average speed of the 500 km should be 60 kph, so about 10 hours worth of riding. Once there, 3 special stages are held. 1st one is on Friday, and consists of a 300 kms round-trip. The 2nd one is held that evening, with a 150 kms round-trip. Finally, the 3rd one is on Saturday with 350 kms. During the round-trips, there is a total of 6 specials on the road and 1 on a race circuit, and one on a go-cart circuit. The finish is expected Saturday at around 16:00, followed by a party. A roadbook is handed over on Thursday night, and no GPS is allowed, nor is the road signposted. You're on your own with regards to navigation. Anyone can participate, the starting engine size is 125 cc. You can be a beginner or Valentino Rossi (who, I hasten to add, is not attending), on a motorcycle, scooter or sidecar. Registration is on their website (in French). It'll cost you €340 if you register before 15 January 2009, after that, it'll cost you €390. Their website also lists all accommodation possible in the area.
