Since launching the list of motorcycle friendly accommodation in France some weeks ago, I've very quickly reached 99 sites. During this time, I've made several changes:
The page is now divided into 4 parts, 1) Introduction 2) Camping-only sites 3) Hotels/GiteGuest house. Usually you can rent the whole house for a week. The Gite usually contains self service kitchen, washing machine./B&BBed & Breakfast. Usually one or several rooms for rent in someone's home, and the price includes breakfast. and 4) Everything. If you select #4, go and get some coffee while it loads. Each site has a photo and data, all generated on-the-fly by a database, so that's a lot of data. The data loads first, followed by the Google Map, followed several seconds later by the markers on the map. Patience.
Accommodation for hotels is now split in hotel, gite (guest house) and B&B. Each has it's own entry and price indicators. I've also added a field that shows if the site owner is a biker. Also, you'll see language flags for the website and for the accommodation (ie what languages do they speak).
Lots of people have been filling in the form with information on other sites, so that is why it went so fast. I do have to reject several of them since they do NOT mention motorcycles on their website. I've made it a policy, no matter how biker-friendly they are, if it's not mentioned somewhere or somehow on their website, it's not going to get listed.
Now that we've reached 99 entries, I'm stuck for the next few days, since I hadn't expected that many so fast, and my program has only a 2 digit counter, so I'll need to modify the program and test it. So for those if you who have filled in the form, patience. It's on a first come, first served basis, so once I've modified the program, I'll start going through the list.
Another major change in the pipeline is a quick search function. It will allow you to specify a geographical zone, accommodation type (hotel, camping etc), service criteria and possibly price bands. Once submitted, the site will only display those matching your criteria. It'll take me a while before I manage, but it will arrive.
