	French Railroads Invest In Electric Motorcycle Company 17 July 2009   File under  Ecology France Electrical Video Feeds   Author: Mike Werner   Location: Normandy, France Pretty amazing for a company that you'd love to hate: the SNCF , the French railroads, have invested €1.5 million (pocket change for them) in another French company. This company, called Lumeneo, has recently shown a new product called SMERA . SMERA is an electric vehicle. It's halfway between a car and a motorcycle. It's a two seater, but in motorcycle style, i.e. pillion sits behind the rider. The vehicle has 4 wheels, but very close to each other, and the bike/car "hangs/tilts" in the corners, a bit like the front wheels of a Piaggio MP3. The vehicle will run at a top speed of 130 kph (80 mph), so legally you can run it on the autoroutes, and you can get a range of 150 kilometers (90 miles) on a single charge (but probably not at the top speed). The SNCF have invested money in this company because they want to complement their product/service offering. Eventually, they want to have a fleet of these vehicles stationed at the railway stations, and renting them out to people who need to go into the city. Well... at least these vehicles can't go on strike, like most of the SNCF. Below is a promo video clip of the SMERA. It doesn't really show the capabilities of the beast, you barely get to see the tilting of the cabin in the curves, but it does show you a nice view of the vehicle on the road.
