Starting the 1st of July 2014, Germany will join the nations that make it mandatory for vehicles to have a high-visibility safety vest in the vehicle. The vest is to be used if/when you have a mechanical problem alongside the motorways.

But luckily, like in many European countries where the Hi-Vis vest is mandatory, motorcycles are exempt.

So cars must have at least one Hi-Vis vest in the car, but motorcycles don't need them. In France, motorcycles protested very loudly to not to have to wear these vests.
