One of the, if not, THE largest historical motorcycle museum has re-opened its doors (starting on the 22nd of January) after an extensive remodelling. Located in a real German castle, the 16th century Schloss Augustusburg, has a total of 1500 m2 fitted with 175 classic and vintage motorcycles. The museum is open from 10 AM to 5 PM. The castle is located in 09573 Augustusburg (click on the globe for a map). This area in Germany is where famous brands such as MZ and DKW were made, so it's fitting that the museum will show many of its former models. Other exhibitions are also taking place in the same castle. But what's interesting, is that you can stay the night in the same castle, and there are even two restaurants. Some of the oldest motorcycles ever made are on show. For example, you'll find a Hildebrand & Wolfmüller from 1894, two Megola (with 5 cylinder star-engine from 1922), and two Böhmerland (longest wheelbase ever from 1928). You'll also find a fine collection of vintage racing motorcycles. There are 10 castles in the immediate area that you can visit, or even stay in. So for holiday planning, it looks like an ideal place to go on your next vacation. Take in the spectacular sights (woods, rivers and hills), stay in impressive castles, and build up the calories with German food. If staying in a real German castle is too expensive, there's even a youth hostel close by. There are also several hotels in the immediate area. It's obvious that bikers are welcome. There's even a guarded parking area for your motorcycles. Click here to get more info about the motorcycle museum .
